Although 1 person to run reception and also attend to the needs of all the guests, is not sustainable. Your staff is by far your greatest asset, and they should be commended for the commitment. It appears the staff are doing their very best, but are receiving no support from the owners of the hotel.
However, I am getting increasingly disappointed with the product. Having stayed at many Novotel Hotels around the world, I can honestly say that this one does not deserve the brand as it is currently being run. I understand that COVID19 has an impact on most businesses, and this one would be no exception, but I am not sure that it can be used as an excuse for many of these concerns, certainly not moving forward.

Room was dirty with ants in the bathroom. The bed was ok which was the saving grace. TV would not turn off air conditioner was old and tired so had to rely on the ceiling fan to keep cool! Staff unhelpful and not interested. Will never stay here again! Well located Hotel close to the centre of the City. Hotel and rooms however are a little dated though clean and tidy. Our Room had Ocean Views which improved its ambience. We had breakfast in the restaurant which was satisfactory - buffet style.
My wife and I booked 2 nights here so we could explore Darwin. Checkin went smoothly and our assigned room was spacious and comfortable with a nice view over the harbour.

When we confirmed we were also informed the bar is also closed. We arrived on a Friday. As part of our Accor membership were were entitled to a couple of welcome drinks from the bar. When these were offered we were told reception staff would get them from the bar and we could sit in the closed bar alone to drink them. If we had been informed the restaurant was closed we would not have booked. Reception staff during our stay were unhelpful with a disinterested attitude. We had a minor issue with the room, we went down to reception and asked for some help.
We are long term Accor members and this is the worst experience we have had. We will never stay here again. Nothing overly wrong with this hotel other than the fact that there was no undercover parking on site you had to use the hotel next door and no communication was made re the hotel hosting quarantined quests. This would have definately made me think twice before booking. With only two lifts in operation, it was a little distressing when the door opens up and staff are wearing masks and pushing carts full of "who knows what".
Our room was fine, albeit the bathroom was a little dirty. When we checked out we had to wait about 5 min. When I queried this the person said "he is alone, and was on the phone and could I not see it" which I thought was not really a good answer to a customer. The room as not as clean as it should be, and there was dust a dead bugs in the window area. Also the tap are fitted upside down, so you cannot see which is the hot or cold taps, which is rather annoying. Would I stay here again? I am not really sure. Took a long weekend getaway with my husband.
Booking was easy and efficient and we were upgraded to a junior suite with harbour view being an Accor member. Check in was swift and welcoming. The suite has a separate bedroom and lounge area with both having wall-mounted flat-screen TVs - no Foxtel or Netflix but does have Stan. The suite was comfortable and adequately equipped including fluffy white towels.

The restaurant and bar were not open much due to COVID restrictions but I did have breakfast on the last morning which was excellent - a tasty and generous big breakfast at a very good price. All the staff were lovely and helpful to a greater or lesser degree which is being picky but some did go over and above to make our stay as special as it could be in restricted times.
The hotel is a little tired in some areas but for the budget price, cannot be complained about. Location in the cbd is excellent without city noise. Room fridge did not cool, ceiling paint in bathroom was peeling off, carpet was stained. I knew it 30 years ago as the "Atrium" just prior to it closing for refurbishment and re-branding. Definitely overdue for another major refurbishment. We checked in late on Friday night and was quite disappointed there was no offer of an upgrade, no complimentary water and no vouchers to use at the bar - not what I expected for an Accor member.

After making a complaint we were given a room upgrade, complimentary water and drink vouchers Our room was not serviced on the first day and when I rang up to enquire if anyone was coming to service it, I was told sorry the cleaning staff have gone for the day but we can bring up clean towels if required.
There was definite lack of staff at the hotel due to the wet season. The bar and restaurant were not open over the weekend. The laundry had 1 washing machine out of 3 working and there was only 1 dryer out of 2 working. All round hard to recommend. Central to shops and bars. Friendly staff and clean rooms. The pool seems small and in welcoming. Bar not open when I was there. View was unreal. Would recommend if wanting to stay close to city and enjoy a beautiful walk along the harbour. Excellent location, the experience offered at the Novotel Darwin CBD is second to none with the way the foyer, bar and dinning area is set up the tranquility is amazing.
Would definitely be coming back again. I chose to have a room over looking the esplanade which was great. I stayed after a hectic week fishing I was allowed to check in early to a very spacious room which was cool on entering the room. This was very much appreciated due to the stifling heat out side.
